Introduction to the archives:
Beijing Municipal Urban Construction Archives is a national specialized archive in Beijing, responsible for collecting, organizing and storing the archives and related materials formed in urban planning, construction and management of the city. Since its official opening in 1990, the Beijing Municipal Urban Construction Archives has gradually formed an archival collection system with reasonable structure, complete categories, rich quantity and diversified sources. Its collections mainly include urban survey, urban planning, urban construction management, completion proof of municipal utility projects, urban pipeline projects, transportation projects, industrial construction projects, civil buildings, design of urban construction projects, human defense projects, water conservancy and disaster prevention projects, and archival materials, gardening and monuments projects, urban construction scientific research, sound and image files, etc.
At present, there are about 1 million volumes of paper archives, as well as a large number of audio-visual archives, miniatures, base maps and models. The planning and management archives mainly keep the files of various types of approval and post-approval supervision of planning sites, projects (including construction and safety, municipalities) formed by the planning and management departments of Beijing. The largest number of files in the collection are the completion files formed after 1990, and the earliest completion file in the collection is the Baiwanzhuang Road completed in 1952. The earliest engineering design files were formed in 1950. The earliest photo archive is the Beijing-Zhangjiakou railroad designed and constructed independently by the Chinese. It also keeps the only “Original Model of Beijing City in 1949” in China, which was completed in the early 1950s.
