Recently, the 2026 Beijing-Tianjin-Shanghai-Chongqing Surveying and Mapping Geo-Information Technology Exchange, hosted by Tianjin Institute of Surveying and Mapping Co., Ltd., was held in Tianjin. Ni Feng, President of the Beijing Institute of Surveying and Mapping, led a delegation to the event, where they exchanged views with counterparts from Tianjin, Shanghai and Chongqing on innovative approaches and practical applications of surveying and mapping geo-information technologies in megacity governance.
The event, themed “Building a Trusted Spatiotemporal Data Foundation for Smarter Governance across Four Cities,” opened with remarks by heads of the surveying and mapping institutes from the four cities and officials from the Tianjin Municipal Bureau of Planning and Natural Resources. The speakers discussed trends in high-quality industry development and new models for cross-regional collaboration. The program included a closed-door management workshop and technical sessions. Participants exchanged views on industry development, business transformation and upgrading, talent development and organizational culture, as well as emerging technologies including spatiotemporal data infrastructure, trusted data spaces, high-quality datasets and the digital preservation of historical and cultural heritage. The exchange enabled the four cities to share experience, learn from one another, and promote the sharing of quality resources and advanced technologies.
During the technical session, the Beijing Institute presented “Green View Index: Research and Practice on a New Indicator for Urban Greening Governance,” sharing its integrated technical approach and practical results across the full process of Green View Index surveys and assessments. The work was well received by participating experts.
Going forward, the Beijing Institute will continue to leverage the four-city cooperation platform to strengthen cross-regional technical collaboration and the sharing and application of research outcomes. In line with Beijing’s strategic positioning as the national capital, it will further consolidate the city’s spatiotemporal information foundation and advance technological innovation, using high-precision surveying and mapping geo-information services to support modern megacity governance and contribute to high-quality development of the surveying and mapping geo-information sector nationwide.
