Recently, the 19th Smart City Conference was held in Tianjin. Vice Presidents Kong Lingyan and Tao Yingchun led a delegation from the Beijing Institute of Surveying and Mapping, showcasing Beijing’s achievements at the meeting in digital and intelligent surveying and mapping geo-information and receiving multiple major industry awards.
Jointly organized by the Chinese Society for Geodesy, Photogrammetry and Cartography, the China Association for Trade in Services, and the Chinese National Committee for Remote Sensing, the conference was themed “People-Centered Development, AI-Powered Collaboration, and Accelerated Digital-Intelligent Transformation.” Experts, scholars and representatives of leading companies from across China gathered to discuss digitalization, intelligent development and urban resilience. Nineteen thematic forums were held on topics including smart territorial planning, a unified real-scene 3D map, AI-enabled smart cities, and digital-intelligent sensing for resilient cities, showcasing the latest technologies and applications in smart city development nationwide.
The Beijing Institute received several honors in the conference’s Smart City Pioneer Awards. Vice President Kong Lingyan was named a “2026 Smart City Leader,” while Vice President Tao Yingchun was named a “2026 Smart City Elite Professional.” The Institute also won awards for its projects and software. “Seeing Green, Experiencing a Better City: R&D and Demonstration of Technologies for Green View Index Surveys and Assessments in Megacities” won first prize for Smart City Application Cases; “Real-Scene 3D Beijing: Building Spatiotemporal Integrated Services for One-Code Connectivity of Physical Urban Infrastructure” won second prize; and the Institute’s independently developed “gInfer V2.0 Integrated 2D/3D Geographic Information Platform” received the Smart City Outstanding Software Award. The honors demonstrate the Institute’s technical strengths in smart governance, real-scene 3D and spatiotemporal platforms.
At the thematic forum on digital-intelligent sensing and resilient cities, the Institute delivered a presentation titled “Strengthening the Digital Foundation for Greater Urban Resilience: Beijing’s Practice in Digitalizing Municipal and Transport Infrastructure.” The presentation outlined Beijing’s experience and innovations in the digital, intelligent and integrated development of municipal and transport infrastructure, earning strong recognition from experts and industry peers.
The conference provided an important opportunity for the Beijing Institute to contribute to smart city development nationwide and showcase the capital’s capabilities in surveying and mapping innovation. Going forward, the Institute will remain focused on Beijing’s role as the national capital and the needs of modern megacity governance, further advancing technologies such as real-scene 3D, spatiotemporal big data and AI-enabled intelligent sensing. It will translate the conference exchanges into practical outcomes and use high-quality spatiotemporal information services to support the city’s digital-intelligent transformation and high-quality smart city development.
