On June 13, a delegation led by Diao Yujie, Director of the Comprehensive Research Office of the Hydrogeology and Environmental Geology Survey Center at the China Geological Survey (CGS), visited the Beijing Institute of Geological & Prospecting Engineering (BIGPE) for a discussion focused on supporting the “dual carbon” goals through geo-environment carbon monitoring. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Director of BIGPE Mr. Li Fangzhen.

Diao Yujie commended BIGPE for setting up the Beijing Geological Safety Monitoring Network, which effectively ensures the geological safety of the capital. Praising the dedication, commitment and the hardworking spirit of geologists, Diao highlighted BIGPE’s leading role in urban geology and geothermal resource development, which set a benchmark for geological agencies nationwide.

Li Fangzhen emphasized the shared synergy between the two agencies, highlighting the broad prospects for cooperation in the “dual carbon” efforts within Beijing and the greater Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. He expressed hopes of enhanced collaboration and coordinated efforts in geological environment carbon monitoring and called for high-quality geological efforts.

During the meeting, BIGPE provided an overview of its operations and the functioning of the Beijing Geological Safety Monitoring Network. The CGS Hydrogeology and Environmental Geology Survey Center shared updates on their research in carbon sequestration and storage, along with examples of recent carbon sequestration monitoring and assessment projects. Both parties engaged in in-depth discussions on supporting the “dual carbon” goals, agreeing to further deepen cooperation, strengthen alignment, and jointly empower the “dual carbon” initiatives in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

Attendees included CGS Senior Engineers Ma Xin, Wang Siyuan, and Hao Wenjie from the Hydrogeology and Environmental Geology Survey Center; BIGPE’s Technical Department Director Liu Qingxiao; Basic Research Department Director Luan Yingbo; and Deputy Director Xu Jixiang.
