On the afternoon of May 17, a delegation of four from the Guangzhou Planning Institute (GZPI) visited the BMICPD to discuss the development of an intelligent model platform for urban flood risk management. The delegation, led by Deputy Director Qi Weifeng and Kuang Minyi of GZPI, was received by Zhang Xiaoxin, Deputy Party Secretary of BMICPD, and his team from the Ecological Planning Department.

Zhang Xiaoxin extended a warm welcome to the delegation and provided an overview of the Institute’s digital technology in territorial spatial planning. Wang Qiang, head of the Ecological Planning Department, detailed the construction and application of flood risk simulation model, covering its fundamental principles, technical features, and practical cases.

The GZPI delegation gave high appraisal for the achievements of BMICPD in flood simulation and engaged in an in-depth discussion about key technologies and future development prospects. Both parties agreed that, given the frequent extreme weather events and the drive for high-quality urban development, assessing and addressing flood risks has become a crucial aspect of urban planning and construction. The development of an intelligent simulation platform will significantly enhance the accuracy of urban flood risk management, providing strong support for sustainable urban development.

The exchange not only enhanced mutual understanding between the two institutes in the field of flood risk simulation but also laid a solid foundation for future exchanges and collaborations. The collaboration between the two institutes aims to continuously improve the capabilities in exploring cutting-edge areas, contributing more wisdom and strength to the urban planning and construction of both cities.
