On April 27th, Vice President Liu Shaomin of the Beijing Institute of Geological & Prospecting Engineering (BIGPE) led a delegation to the 2024 (15th) China Mining Circular Economy and Green Mining Development Forum. The forum was held to address industry needs and actively contribute to green mine construction.
Hosted by the China Mining Federation under the theme “Green Concept for a Beautiful China,” the forum featured keynote addresses, case studies, and experience-sharing sessions. Discussions centered on new green mine construction requirements and deployments, highlighting some cutting-edge technologies and achievements. Participants explored measures and innovative approaches to propel green mine development across China. Notably, the forum delved into the “Notice on Further Strengthening the Construction of Green Mines” issued by the Ministry of Natural Resources and 6 other ministries, with attendees sharing their experiences in green mine practices.
Building on Beijing’s success in establishing eight national-level green mines and one pilot unit since 2014, the “14th Five-Year Plan for Ecological Rehabilitation of Mines in Beijing (2021-2025)” sets the ambitious target to complete all artificial ecological rehabilitation projects in the city by 2025, achieving a 100% treatment rate for mined lands.
BIGPE plays a vital role in supporting Beijing’s green mining initiatives. Through comprehensive geological surveys, monitoring of geothermal resources and mine environments, and database construction, BIGPE provides crucial data and recommendations for protecting regional mineral resources, restoring and managing the mine geological environment, as well as spatial planning and ecological restoration. These efforts directly contribute to the effective management of the Beijing’s mineral resources and mine ecology while solidifying BIGPE’s significant role in the construction of green mines in Beijing.
Looking ahead, BIGPE will further enhance its service and support capacity in areas like tech innovation, green mine standards formulation, improved evaluation metrics, and information technology application. By doing so, BIGPE will continue to champion the green and low-carbon transformation of mines in the capital.
BIGPE was represented at the forum by a delegation led by Vice President Liu Shaomin. The delegation included Qin Junsheng, Director of the Mineral Resources Department, Li Xiang, Deputy Director, and relevant technical staff from the Geothermal Institute and Mining Research Institute.
