Beijing Municipal Institute of City Planning & Design Recognized as “Xicheng Young Star”

On the eve of May 4 Youth Day in 2024, the Organization Department, Publicity Department, Working Committee of District Organs, and Youth League of Xicheng District announced the list of “Xicheng Youth Stars.” Among 330 candidates recommended by 75 units, 37 individuals and 23 units were given this title. Notably, the Office of Historical and Cultural Cities (the “Office” hereinafter) of the Beijing Municipal Institute of City Planning and Design was recognized as a “Xicheng Young Star.”

The Office serves as a crucial technical entity for urban planning, construction, and historical and cultural preservation in the capital city. It stands as the core force within the Professional Committee for the Protection of Famous Historical and Cultural Cities of the Beijing Urban Planning Institute. With a team comprising 15 highly skilled professionals, 80% of whom are under the age of 35, the Office embodies youth, energy, strength, and innovation. Positioned at the forefront of planning and construction endeavors in the capital city for preservation of renowned urban areas, it collaborates closely with stakeholders to advance the protection of Beijing’s relics.

In recent years, the Office has achieved significant milestones, including the drafting of the Regulations for the Protection of Famous Historical and Cultural Cities in Beijing and the Planning of Heritage Inheritance System for Historical and Cultural Protection in Beijing. They have also formulated important plans like the Protection and Management Planning of the Beijing Central Axis (2022-2035) and participated in the drafting of the Detailed Controlling Plan for the Functional Core Area of the Capital City (2018-2035). Over the years, the Office has contributed consistently to enhancing Beijing’s historical and cultural heritage.
