To implement the directives of the Third Director’s Office Meeting of the 20th Capital Planning and Construction Committee, and to promote the concept of a garden city, the Beijing Municipal Commission of Planning and Natural Resources, in collaboration with the Beijing Municipal Forestry and Parks Bureau, jointly held a seminar on April 25 about Beijing’s Garden City Initiative.

The seminar was co-supported by the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, and organized by the Beijing Municipal Institute of City Planning & Design. The seminar saw the participation of key officials including Shi Xiaodong, chief planner and member of the party leadership group of the Commission, Gao Dawei, director-general and party secretary of Beijing Municipal Forestry and Parks Bureau, Shang Jing, Deputy Director and Chief Planner of the Land and Space Planning Research Center at the Ministry of Natural Resources, and Yang Hongyi, Deputy Director of the Urban Construction Department at the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. Esteemed experts from various fields such as urban planning, design, architecture, environmental ecology, landscape architecture, and social sciences provided insights and recommendations, discussing policies, methods, and practices related to transforming Beijing into a garden city, while envisioning the blueprint for this initiative.

The Commission will systematically incorporate expert suggestions, taking into account the capital’s specific conditions and development needs. Guided by the “Beijing Garden City Special Plan (2023-2035),” the Commission will diligently carry out various tasks to build a garden city.
