On the morning of March 31, Shi Nan, executive vice president of the Urban Planning Society of China (UPSC), Duan Jin, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering led a delegation of over 30 experts and scholars from across the nation on a study tour to the Beijing Subcenter where they visited its Green Core and examined three prominent cultural institutions: the Beijing Arts Center, the Beijing City Library, and the Beijing Grand Canal Museum. Shi Xiaodong, member of the party leadership group and president of the Beijing Municipal Planning and Natural Resources Commission, along with leaders from the Subcenter Branch of the Beijing Municipal Institute of City Planning & Design, the Commission’s Tongzhou Branch, and other pertinent departments, accompanied the delegation during the visit.
The experts began their inspection at the Beijing Arts Center, where officials provided a detailed overview of the center’s functional layout and operations. Subsequently, they toured the Beijing Grand Canal Museum and the Beijing City Library. Throughout the visit, Shi Xiaodong and accompanying personnel shared valuable insights into the planning, construction, and operation of these cultural landmarks and their surrounding areas.
The experts and scholars witnessed firsthand the dynamic development and transformation of Beijing’s sub-center in recent years, along with the significant progress in relieving the non-essential functions of Beijing. They experienced the ecological civilization ethos and people-centric development concept conveyed through subcenter’s Green Core. The three landmarks exemplified a global perspective, international standards, distinctive Chinese characteristics, and lofty positioning. It promoted architectural design and engineering construction with utmost standards and quality, leaving a profound impression on the experts.
Over the years, the experts have provided crucial guidance to the planning and construction of Beijing’s sub-center, actively offering suggestions for its development. Looking ahead, they aim to scale up the lessons learned and best practices through the UPSC platform, fostering greater academic exchanges and interactions with experts and scholars nationwide.
Through this research trip, by experiencing the “sub-center speed” and “sub-center quality,” experts have emphasized the guiding principles pointed by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for the New Era, which helps strengthening solidarity and determination to advance Beijing’s planning and construction efforts for even greater achievements.
