On August 31st, a briefing meeting was held in Shunyi District on the appointment of district-level Chief Planners and related work. Mr. Chen Jing, Chief Economist of the Beijing Municipal Institute of City Planning and Design (hereafter referred to as “the Institute”), and Mr. Wen Zongyong, Vice President of Beijing City University, were appointed as district-level Chief Planners. Mr. Huang Xiaochun, Chief Engineer of the Institute, attended the meeting on behalf of Mr. Chen Jing. Mr. Ran Hao, Deputy District Mayor, presented the appointment certificates to the two Chief Planners.

The Institute would fully leverage its strengths, said Huang Xiaochun, by coordinating technological applications, informing projects with academic findings, and advancing practical implementation. The appointed personnel would shoulder the responsibilities and mission as district-level Chief Planners, said Huang. Additionally, the Institute would strengthen investigations and research on the current situation and planning needs, and enhance communication and exchanges with government departments, enterprises, communities, residents, and various stakeholders. It would also uphold traditions while exploring innovation and keep improving the professionalism of planning work. Personnel at the Institute would focus on key issues in the development of the Shunyi District in the new era, including the integration of port-city-industry development, industrial park renewal, policy integration, coordinated urban-rural development, smart city development, green and secure infrastructure, land resource utilization, and sustainable economic development. The Institute would pool efforts with the planners and designers in various districts and contribute their expertise and ideas to support Shunyi's quality development. In so doing, we will embrace a new chapter of quality development of Shunyi District in the new era.

At the meeting, the invited delegates from the Beijing Municipal Commission of Planning and Natural Resources, the Municipal Urban Management Commission, and the Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban-Rural Development briefed on a range of issues, including the renovation of backstreets and alleys, the transformation of old residential areas, and urban renewal. Delegates from the Chief Planner teams of various towns and streets in Shunyi District also attended the meeting.
