Exploration of geothermal resources in Beijing had a major breakthrough. 117 ℃ high temperature geothermal artesian water vapor mixing fluid was explored at Fengheying Geothermal Garden on Dec. 27, 2011. With the depth of 3,356 meters, the geothermal fluid flow reached 3002.5 tons a day, making a new record.
The initial projections states that the energy can meet the need of building heating of at least 10 million square meters and building cooling of 3.5 million square meters in Caiyu Town. The energy can provide an industrial steam capacity of 100 MW, a geothermal power capacity of 15MW, and a generating capacity of 50 million kwh. The first national geothermal heat, electricity, cold, steam quadruple for recycling pilot project can be developed, which can save coal consumption of 140.6 thousand tons, reduce carbon dioxide of 350.6 thousand tons, sulfur dioxide of 10.6 thousand tons, nitrogen oxides of 5.3 thousand tons and smoke of 3.754 thousand tons.
According to the projections, the scientific development of Fengheying Geothermal Garden will provide zero-emission clean energy prospects to the economic and social development of Southeast Beijing, centered in Yizhuang Development Zone. The exploration will also provide strong support to the implementation of Beijing's Twelfth Five-Year Plan emission reduction targets.
