On July 27 to 31, 2013, Prof. Nickolas Zouros (Greece) and Dr. Louis Alcala (Spain) of the Global Geoparks Network (GGN), UNESCO, constituted an expert panel. The observer Prof. Jose Brielya (Portugal), investigated and evaluated Yanqing National Geopark of Beijing. The expert panel spoke highly of Yanqing's efforts in world geopark application. Chen Xiaoning, Deputy Director of the Department of Geological Environment, the Ministry of Land and Resources (MLR); Yuan Xiaohong, Chief of the Division of Geological Environment, the Department of Geological Environment, MLR; Director-General Wei Chenglin and Deputy Director-General Li Yanfei of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Land and Resources (BMBLR); as well as officials of the Division of Geological Environment, BMBLR participated in the investigation and evaluation.
On September 7 to 13, 2013, the World Geopark Review Conference was held during the 3rd Asia-Pacific Geoparks Network Jeju Symposium to vote on evaluation results.
By 2012, China had recommended and reviewed seven groups of world geoparks. 27 national geoparks, including Beijing's Fangshan, Anhui's Huangshan and Hong Kong had been included in GGN, and China had recommended Shennongjia National Geopark of Hubei and Yanqing Geopark of Beijing for the world geopark review in 2013.
