Recently, the Beijing Trial Awards Presentation Ceremony for "Beautiful China" 4th National Children's Hand-painted Map Competition was held at the Shijingshan Youth Activity Center. The Beijing Municipal Commission for City Planning and Natural Resources, the Beijing Society of Surveying and Mapping, the Shijingshan Youth Activity Center and other entities attended the event. The winners and outstanding instructors in the competition and the representatives of the entities that obtain outstanding organization award participated in the event.

   This children's hand-painted map competition is sponsored by the Beijing Municipal Commission for City Planning and Natural Resources and undertaken by the Beijing Society of Surveying and Mapping. The event, with the "Beautiful China" as theme and the map as the carrier, expresses the praise and love of the children to beautiful China and hometowns in the form of paintings, as well as the enthusiasm and yearning for the harmonious world. A total of 119 paintings were received in this competition. Among the contestants, the youngest was 5 years old and the oldest was 12 years old. In accordance with the rules of the competition, and through the assessment of industry experts from the Ministry of Natural Resources, Sinomaps Press, Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture and so on, as well as on-site display, public voting and other links. Three winners of the First Prize, eight winners of the Second Prize, fourteen winners of the Third Prize, three winners of the Excellence Guidance Award and two winners of the Excellence Organization Award among three age groups (namely, below 6 years old, 6-8 years old and 9-12 years old) are appraised and selected.

   Beijing Municipal Commission for City Planning and Natural Resources expressed its congratulations to the winners and expressed sincere gratitude to all parties who actively organized and participated in the competition. Moreover, it also explained the significance of the national territory with specific examples, and hoped that the numerous teenagers will constantly strengthen the national territory awareness, improve their artistic accomplishment and grow up healthily and happily. Subsequently, award certificates were presented to the winners, instructors and representatives of the entities that obtain the outstanding organization awards.

   In order to further popularize the knowledge of maps and educate the territory awareness, after the award ceremony, the staff of the Beijing Municipal Commission for City Planning and Natural Resources gave lectures on the national territory such as Maps Can Be like This and Knowing the National Territory and Guarding Beautiful China. The fantastic lectures deepened the understanding of the national territory and map knowledge, and were unanimously praised by the participants.

   The event has played a positive role in popularizing the national territory knowledge, enhancing the national territory awareness of citizens, in particular for teenagers, and creating a social atmosphere that consciously safeguards the dignity of the national territory and resists the "problem map".
