The year 2022 marks the 40th anniversary of the system of protecting historic and cultural cities in China, as well as Beijing’s enlisting as one of the first batch of historic and cultural cities. This year also marks the first anniversary of the amended Regulations on the Protection of Historic and Cultural Sites of Beijing. In order to comprehensively review the history of the past 40 years, especially since the 18th Party Congress, summarize work experience and achievements, and further implement the Regulations on the Protection of Historic and Cultural Sites in Beijing, under the guidance of the Office of the Committee for the Protection of Historic and Cultural Sites in Beijing and with the support of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Planning and Natural Resources, the Beijing Urban Planning Society has compiled the “Excellent Cases on the Protection of Beijing’s Historical and Cultural Sites (2013-2022)”.
The excellent cases were recommended by the relevant departments of each district, industry organizations, and the general public. The book collected representative practices of on preservation of historic and cultural sites since the 18th Party Congress, and invited experts and scholars in heritage conservation, cultural research, and urban renewal to participate in the drafting process. A total of 108 excellent cases have been selected and are now ready to be released to the public. The book is expected to play a positive role on the preservation, inheritance and utilization of Beijing’s fine historical and cultural resources.
