Beijing is at its best in midsummer when people can roam around the water, get close to rivers and lakes and enjoy the beauty of nature. On occasion of the Dragon Boat Festival, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism has released 19 routes with the theme – “Strolling along Beijing’s Rivers and Lakes”. These routes are recommended for travelers to get a close contact with nature. The Beijing Surveying and Mapping Design & Research Institute has provided mapping and technical services for the tourism routes. These routes link Beijing’s history and culture with water, integrating the resources on one axis and three belts, guiding citizens and tourists to find a cool waterfront in a hot summer day and harvest a story of Beijing with a pleasant stroll.

To make full use of the existing mapping results and better promote the tourism routes released by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, the Beijing Surveying and Mapping Design & Research Institute has developed a special layer in the form of geographic information services on the Internet map service platform – “Sightseeing Map of Beijing” ( Beijing Geographic Information Public Service Platform, http://beijing.tianditu.gov.cn) to publish 19 routes with the theme “Strolling along Beijing’s Rivers and Lakes”. These routes are located in the “Special Layer” section of the map’s website, and the spatial location of each route and the river and lake systems involved are displayed altogether, and the special sites near water along each route are introduced in detail. These sites along each route are introduced in detail.
