World Bank Delegation Inspected the Demonstration Project of Sustainable Urban Development in Beijing

On May 18, 2021, field inspections were carried out on the Comprehensive Demonstration Projects of Beijing’s sustainable urban development: Item II and III of GEF6 by Dr. Xiao Yuan, Urban Development Expert of World Bank and Manager of China Sustainable Urban Development Project, Ms. Dong Wenyan, Project Operation Expert and Ms. Wang Shuning, an Urban Development Analyst on behalf of the World Bank.


Communications on the overall progress of the project were conducted between experts from the World Bank and relevant parties, such as Feng Keliang, Head of Project Steering Committee of the Beijing Office for GEF6 and Deputy Director of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban-rural Development, relevant departments of the Beijing Project Office and the research team of the Beijing Municipal Institute of City Planning & Design. The undertaker of this project made a brief report, attendees to the meeting also included representatives from Beijing Infrastructure Investment Co., Ltd., Beijing Urban Railway Investment Development Co., Ltd.and Future Science City Group.


As one of the seven pilot cities of GEF6, Beijing has received fund from the World Bank to develop city-level strategic researches on Public Transportation-Oriented Development (TOD) and applied them to roads, stations and across various districts. Through the visit, the World Bank Delegation conducted a detailed inspection and offered its guidance on the management of the GEF pilot project in Beijing. The World Bank gave high appraisal to the Beijing Project Office for the early completion and orderly management of the projects, and also shared its expectations for the projects going forward.
