In order to further refine the urban design for Beijing’s territorial spatial planning, improve systematic and full-process governance, and build an urban design system that aligns to territorial spatial planning. Recently, the Urban Design Division of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Planning and Natural Resources held an expert review on the final technical points of urban design preparation for Beijing’s territorial spatial planning. The review was participated by five experts from the fields of territorial spatial planning, urban design and architectural design.

The Beijing Municipal Institute of Urban Planning & Design gave an introduction about the “Technical Points of Urban Design Preparation for Beijing’s Territorial Spatial Planning” (hereinafter referred to as “Technical Points”). The Technical Points is based on the actual situation of urban design in Beijing, fully connects with and adheres to the relevant documents of the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Ministry of Housing and Rural & Urban Development. It uses illustration and text, provides model cases for various types of urban design at all levels, and improves and straightens urban design management from the perspectives of design requirements, audit and verification, information disclosure and sharing, etc, based on which the Technical Points proposes that urban design results must be checked through a compliance audit.

The experts at the meeting considered the Technical Points as a result of logical research. It’s highly comprehensive, targeted and features some key focuses. They therefore concluded that the original purpose of the project was met. Experts are of the view that the Technical Points will be of great guidance to urban design work of Beijing in the future, and thus have unanimously adopted the Technical Points.  

The Commission will continue focusing on people’s need for a better life and improving the living environment of the city by adhering to the key guidelines of urban design, and following the urban design concept of “party leadership, innovative management, better living standards and urban environment”.
